Land, water and air each have their own environmental testing methods and qualification standards based specifically on their intended use. The standard RTCA/DO 160 “Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment” describes various standard environmental testing conditions and methods for airborne equipment for the entire spectrum of aircraft, including unmanned systems. This test takes place in a laboratory environment which simulates the environmental conditions that may arise when the device is operated in air. The performance characteristics of the devices and systems are tested with regard to the following aspects, among others: Temperature and temperature variation, altitude, humidity, shock, vibration, explosionproofness, waterproofness, sand and dust, fungus resistance, salt and fog, electromagnetic compatibility and radiation, electrical power supply, electrostatic susceptibility and flammability.
