Solutions from KNDS Deutschland Mission Electronics are used on land, at sea and in the air. Accordingly, specific technical standards for maritime use also have to be taken into account during qualification. This is done by applying DIN EN 60945 “Navigation and radio communication devices and systems for maritime shipping - General requirements - Testing procedures and required test results”.
DIN EN 60945 specifies test procedures in terms of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and the operational safety under different environmental conditions on ships for radio communication devices and communication systems.
The standard specifies tests for the compatibility of devices, equipment and systems regarding such aspects as exposure to extreme temperatures during operation and storage, rain, spray water and humidity, contamination by liquids, corrosion, solar radiation, submersion, vibration and shock, as well as with regard to conducted and radiated emissions. It also includes test procedures for the electrical power supply, such as transient protection, electrostatic discharge and power supply fluctuations, among other things.
